Mia's crazy

Wanna know why?! Because this is how she sleeps... Legs up in the air. What a life she lives... God I love her:) she makes me smile!

On top of the that with the tv mounted on the wall she can actually see when dogs are on tv... Iams commercials make her go nutso!

PS : yes she looks like a little rag-a-muffin - I promise she is groomed and bathed and brushed frequently but she is not your typical small, indoor dog - the girl thinks she's a lab and loves to get dirty and be outside... needless to say she got a haircut! A sweet little summer cut with pics to come:)

I made a dress!!!

And a cute one at that!

The other day I was blog-stalking and found some great new blogs to follow! The one had an awesome dress this lady whipped up with a super easy tutorial. I've been wanting to test out my sewing skills some more so I got into it. She suggested buying a cheap tank but I had so many that I just wear to bed so I grabbed a white one and headed to JoAnns for some fabric shopping. I'm a sucker for fabric and bought 3 new fabrics - actually 4 but I'm taking 1 back.

I opted to make a funky and fun dress first. Started out following all the steps but then came the elastic thread and my sewing machine just wasn't on board so I swapped that out with an elastic band. With a Skype date with my mom and some conversing I kinda dove right in and miraculously it worked out! It is so cute and I actually get to wear it in public:):) it might be my new flying dress for the summer since its long to keep me warm on the flight but a tank top too for outside:) love it!
Yes I sewed it the wrong way first....

But I didn't give up - ripped out the stitches and re-did it:)
Cut off my tank top to where I wanted it

Finished product - with a thick belt
Or with a sash I made from the leftover fabric - this is how I wore it to school and got a TON of compliments

2 funny comics

I was reading the paper .... OR clipping coupons and reading the comics... And came across these 2 funny ones. First one is for all those mommys out there.... I can only imagine how hectic your lives are now....

And the second one is just so true - damn you adobe your employers must work their tails off to update so often!

SXSW

SXSW... what's it mean? Well to people who live in Austin or follow music -- it's an amazing film and music event! So what does it mean? South by Southwest. Or in Austin we like to abbreviate it... to South by. So on facebook when I posted my status as 'fabulous night for sx' - I meant for south by... not sEx. But yes - that was how some of my friends saw it :) Awesome... thanks all. And yes... my Great Aunt Kathy (yep mom we are friends on fb) commented said for sOx... must be cold there. hahahahah

Anywho - we didn't do much at SXSW this year even though it was during the spring break and I didn't have much going on. Now looking back I wish I did. But... we did go see Counting Crows - UHMAZEING. Anyone my age I feel like worshipped them... at least I did! Love those dreads. Spring break was full of dreary cloudy rainy weather but the evenings were perfect. The concert night was awesome and we were living it up!

Run to the Sun

Run to the Sun is approaching quickly! A little over a month and I will participate in an event that pushed me into wanting to run longer, farther, and faster. Each team has to raise $5000 - my school has 2 teams... meaning $10,000. We have already raised over $5000 which is amazing and next Friday we are hoping to raise quite a bit more with a fitness after school camp.

Below is a video of what and who this run supports and also there is my donation page! Thanks for supporting!

Click here to donate to my team!

Click here to watch a video of the team from last year from our school
- talk about inspiration! If you have ever wanted to get into running - this is the video to get you motivated! The video is all the way at the bottom with the gray 'Run to the Sun' along the bottom

And finally the last video is a clip of the entire event that took place last year... now are you motivated!?!?

More randoms:)

I like random posts...

  • Have you tried 'Fun d-middles' by Betty Crocker? The other day I wanted to make cupcakes for a get together but it was too late in the day for the cupcakes to cool to frost. Then I saw this and they were on sale! The icing goes on the inside while baking and OMG! So yummy! It's like a homemade twinkie!

  • We don't have a washer and dryer in our new place. I love doing laundry. This is a problem for me. But we do have 2 onsite washers and dryers... so the value of a quarter is a lot bigger to me now... $1 a load shew!
  • We love Sams Club. Derrick's parents are members so Derrick signed on with them. Our weekends entail timing our errands perfectly so we can swing by for samples and then a hot dog for $1.00. Yep... we sound like fun people. But seriously - we love to get their cheese, tortilla chips, pita chips, and produce there!
  • Derrick's brother and sister got me this heated candle warmer for Christmas. His mom has one at their house in FL and I loved it! Great gift for anyone not sure what to get! Added bonus.... Wood Wick candle smells amazing with it.
  • We have DVR now. I have only remembered to tape 2 things. And then I forgot that I DVR'd them and watched them online... defeats the purpose:)
  • I went to The Salt Lick the other day with a group of friends. It is a known staple in the Austin area but takes about 20 minutes outside of Austin. It was... UH-MAZE-ING. I got a sliced beef (brisket) sandwich and then to top if off... warm peach cobbler with ice cream! We got all 3 desserts they offered on the menu - blackberry cobbler and pecan pie too! mouth watering pics:)

  • GoodWill is my favorite place ever. I needed a frame for a craft project (I will post it soon... we just have to get it hung!) I'm working on for our headboard and found a painting inside the frame I wanted for $8. The painting was broken out of it but I didn't care... I just wanted the frame. Well when I got the painting home I noticed it was a one-of-a-kind based on the label on the back. Looked up the artist online and the paintings go for $1000-2000! I contacted an art dealer and they want me to bring it in! Whoop whoop!

It's Mia's birthday!

Apartment updates

Our apartment is coming along... much quicker and easier and cheaper than our last move! We have so much stuff now we actually couldn't even put it all up on the walls/use it. The bedroom is getting finished up and curtains are still in the process of being made/found (I have ideas but haven't had a chance to pull them together yet.... not sure where my motivation went during this rainy spring break).

But... here are some new pics!

Our kitchen - we needed more space for our new pots and pans! Awesome deal at Bed Bath and Beyond - they let you use the 20% off code on their pots and pans!

Derrick's room up stairs with the painting
Steps doing downstairs. I made that into a full length mirror based off of where I stand on the steps:) That big wall along the side I plan to do a picture mural of all of our photos we take:)

Shopping finds!

With Spring Break here and cloudy/rainy weather I'm using up some gift cards and getting some shopping in.

Hit up Target the other day and found these linen shorts that fit awesome (short... but I like short still haha) and so comfy. And the adorable dress that fits amazing and I can wear it to school since it's long enough!

I've needed new running shoes for a little bit, not too bad yet but I didn't want it to get too bad, and I recently bought a coupon via plumdistrict.com they offered $50 for $25 but since it was my first purchase I got it for $20! They evaluated my feet again and my stride but were out of my Asics I got last time. Instead I got some AWESOME Mizunos - they are dark purple, black, white, and have neon yellow throughout too. Awesome!

Went into GoodWill too to check out their latest intake of clothes. Like I said before the Goodwill by me is full of designer and high end things. I picked up the cute little pajamas with the tags still on for $2 and found a pair of Gap skinny jeans with zippered legs for $10 (fit PERFECT) and an AnnTaylor burnt orange and creme striped sundress - perfect for tailgating since my burnt orange in my closet is limited.

Whoo hoo - I love good finds!
