Lucy Update

I blogged about Lucy awhile back. A little girl who become horribly ill with cancer. I just wanted to provide a small update on her prognosis and life thus far. Of course her story can be followed by clicking the button on the side of my page, but I felt the need to update. Just remember... I have no technical terms or anything like that. I just want to provide a summary of what I have read over the past couple of weeks and to show how much prayers do work.

During her final weeks of RT Lucy was getting more and more ill. Throwing up all day, everyday. She lost a lot of important vitamins and was not able to keep down any food, resulting in being malnourished. She completed her RT and had some weeks to recoup and recover before beginning chemotherapy. She had a great day one day and the next, things took a turn for the worse. She couldn't see. Couldn't focus. She was slowly going blind. They prayed to find a reason, an explanation, and they got it. Due to all of her vomiting she was losing essentials that her body needed. They pumped her with the good stuff and her sight is getting better and better each day. She is getting stronger each day and is getting back her sight.

Prayer works. Sure, God can't just make her cancer disappear. But, when they did a scan they saw that her tumors had decreased DRASTICALLY. He is showing that He is listening, and wants to answer their prayers. No one knows why children get cancer, but it's not because God doesn't love them. To me, after reading their blog, I couldn't believe more that He is listening, you just have to believe it.

Summertime... so close

2 more days with kids, 3 more days of school. Where did the time go??

Many/most teachers enjoy the summer and take off. In the past I never got paid in the summer so I always worked in Charlotte. I used to manage/lifeguard a pool 40-50 hours a week (even when school was in session since it opened in Mid May and we didn't get out till the 2nd weeks in June). I am not going to be THAT crazy anymore since I do get paid now in the summer, but I still want to keep busy. Why not take advantage and make some extra money?

So the low down is this:

June: M-F 9-3 nanny for a family of 4, 9 year old, 6 year old, 3 year old, and 5 months. The mom says she will never leave me alone with all 4 but I wouldn't mind. They are the SWEETEST kids.
Also M, T, W, F I am tutoring for an hour each time. Some days are doubled up, others its just 1 kid.

July:
Then 2 weeks off in July for a wedding and some birthday relaxation, but still tutoring. Then 2 weeks of summer camp M-F 9-2. Still tutoring.

August:
2 weeks of nothing unless we are around then I'll continue tutoring. We are planning a vacation somewhere. It was Costa Rica but now with the crazy weather we might avoid the Caribbean and do something overseas like Europe or Asia? We shall see!

Shewy --- pretty soon it will be August and I will be starting all over again with a brand new classroom :)

Paisley

You might remember my post about the possibility of another puppy/dog. It had been on our minds and we contemplated back and forth. Last Sunday we ran to Petco to get Mia some treats and there were puppies there for adoption. Lots of them. I loved them all. Until I saw 2 little, little puppies - a black one and a white one. They were brother and sister. Uno and Dos were their names. There were 11 of them in the litter and 77 total taken from the puppy mill they were found out. Talk about breaking my heart. I loved Uno. She was all black with a "paint dip" of white on her back paws and tail. She snuggled and loved but played also. I wanted her. Bad.

Derrick said no. We went into Petco to talk about it and came out saying YES! We went to get the money and came back to sign the papers. I was so excited. She had just the cutest little face. I couldn't wait for Mia to have a playmate!

Well, sadly, things didn't work out the way we planned. Mia went into complete stressed out mode. I know everyone said to give it time (we only gave it 24 hours) but the pain and stress Mia was in broke our hearts. Mia was foaming at the mouth, which is normal for a stressed/anxious dog, but she was foaming so badly that her entire coat was soaked. Even through the night when the puppy was in the kitchen and we were in the bedroom with the door shut she still was going crazy. She wasn't eating or drinking. We had a choice to make. A hard choice. I went to school to see if anyone would want to take her, many people did but their spouses felt it was too rushed. So, 24 hours later I drove Paisley back crying. She was so sweet. But, to lighten my mood when I arrived the man in the charge of the adoption was there and he was so wonderful. He said "watch this watch this!" and he placed her in the cage with Dos (her brother) and they went crazy seeing eachother! They licked and whimpered and quickly found a little place to snuggle up with each other and go to sleep. He also informed me that someone had come by previously inquiring about adopting both of them. He was going to call them back and hopefully send them home, together, as a family:) Here are some sweet pictures of Paisley:)

buddies already
We still would love another dog. After talking with people we realize that a dog rather than a puppy will be a good choice. She does fine and loves when we dog sit so I'm hoping it was just the energy of a puppy that made her crazy.

Derrick's moving in process

Who would've thought a boy could squeeze so much stuff into a small UHaul trailer?

Derrick moved his stuff out here a couple of weeks ago and the first night opted to unpack every single box. Awesome right? No. Not so much. You see, he likes to get everything out of the boxes and look at it. Take it all in. So he unpacked all of the boxes and then went to the work! For 5 days. Then came back and we were pretty busy so it sat again. This past week he finally made major organizational decisions and the room is back to normal... almost.

Here are the before shots. For someone who has been so lucky to take after my highly organized mother I inherited her gene of wanting to put everything away (even if someone is still using it... like a cup full of water that I sat down to go use the rest room and I come back and it has been washed, dryed, and put away. Yea.... ) I didn't touch his things. Really... I didn't even know where to start!

The computer area... he has 4 now... 3 that work

The boy who loves to read and collect books

The view from the hallway... the door stayed shut a lot

More chaos

I did 11 loads of laundry. These were just part of the whites and darks....

And the after:
There is a floor!

Computer area

Small bookshelf. We also have 2 6ft bookshelves in the bedroom but he couldn't fit all of his books. He still can't fit them all even with the little one.

It's nice now that it is pretty much complete. We bought a filing cabinet and each have a drawer for all of our paperwork. My organized personality feels happy with the success of (almost) everything having a place.

Pillows recovered

I taught myself how to recover my pillows and love how they turned out. They add some nice color and flow to the living room. I still have 2 more to do in solid color (the fabric of the pelmet box) but just haven't made those up yet (waiting on a rainy day... it's going to be a while I think).
I used the same fabric, or actually the pillow cases, from the sheets I made the curtains out of. It was pretty nice... 3 of the 4 sides were sewn already!!! I just measured, cut, ironed, and sewed. Yep, sewed up all 4 sides. Hm... so how exactly am I supposed to get the pillow IN the fabric now? I made a large slit in the back and slipped in the pillow so they are more like shams.
Who really flips over pillows anyways? The coral colored one I made by sewing all 4 sides. I measured it a little off and it is slightly too big but hey... first time ever - I'll take it! I just kind of pull it tight on 1 side and hide the other side between the 2 blue pillows. Can't even tell!

Beware!

Remember this post when I said I had ordered the adorable tutu and was so excited about it. Yea.. barely... maybe because it was 6 weeks ago and she still HAS NOT received it. I have contacted the company 4 times and they have yet to respond. It states on their website to allow up to 14 days for their delivery... yea how about 42? Best part is you are only allowed a refund/return for 30 days after purchase. Yep, that's right, I can't even return it if they ever send it! AND they charged me for it already.

I contacted BBB. All I'm asking for is a refund and for them to acknowledge that they ignored me. They are not just an online company. They have a store in NJ! And other bloggers have featured them on their blogs with contests, ratings, etc. I'm honestly so sad to say I had such a terrible experience with them because they did have great prices, but maybe that is the price I had to pay. Instead, today after filing my complaint I ordered from another company for $10 more. I'll be happy to tell everyone the company once Shauna receives it... don't wanna jump the gun on this one.

Just wanted to warn everyone:)

Disgusting

This women... or mother as she wants to be called... disgusts me. Gross. You have an 8 year old - full of innocence, happiness, purity. And you are pumping her body with chemicals to get rid of her WRINKLES!?! Are you insane? What kind of image are you giving your poor child?

Click here to read the article and watch the video...

What do you think? I think it is just terrible. Now oddly enough, I do think pageants are adorable for little girls and I think it just looks so fun for a little girl to feel like a princess! But... I would never take it so far to buy them flippers (the fake teeth to hide their teeth they lost), spray tan, wigs, none of that! I still think they look so cute all done up and as long as they enjoy it and want to do it, let them. But when a child starts having a sense of insecurity about themselves... that's when there is a HUGE problem. Still to this day I cannot ever... ever.. EVER remember hearing my mother make a comment about her body or herself in front of me. I really believe that is why I have never had insecurities. People are raising their children to think they are fat, have wrinkles, yucky hair, and everything else all by the age of 6 or 7. Disgusting.

I love the random posts

I am a huge fan of random posts. Get to the point, fill people in, and be done with it:) so... without further ado here is what is going on with me:

  • Have you ever been getting things done and enjoying a glass of wine, and all of a sudden that wine is gone?? When did I finish it? Yea, that just happened...
  • Thought I was having a relapse of a flea situation again with Mia and panicked!! I noticed her biting a lot lately but we also have been bathing her more to prevent another UTI but every time I check, no fleas. Today I checked and found one on her belly. I freaked. Tossed her in the tub with Dawn blue dish soap expecting swarms of them but there wasn't one - NONE! She is on her meds that we never miss a dose of (not even a day late) so I guess it must have just been outside, jumped on her when we came in from our walk, and I killed it before the medicine did. Shew!!
  • I am on my 11th load of laundry... I am ALMOST done with Derrick's laundry (PS... he doesn't ask me to do it, I love doing laundry. Like highly love and thoroughly enjoy doing it, I know - so weird)!
  • 13 days left of school - Oh. Em. Gee - cannot believe it
  • Speaking of school... nothing is official yet but... it looks like low and behold and after all of this panic and me even finding and having another job, I will be able to stay at my current school AND teach Kindergarten!! Our numbers are extremely high and once all is said and done, they will create another position for me! I already have my class for next year and I am so excited and happy to have another year in this school! And, most of all to see all my sweet kids in 1st grade next year.
  • What do you think of all of the season finales coming up? Greys ... meh... would've been better if they kept us hanging on Callie and the baby. Gossip Girl - I have to say, I built it up BIG time. Not reallllly loving it.
  • Our mattress did show up last Thursday but it was very late AND one of the men were not in uniform. This really bothers me and I called to inform them and they quickly took the delivery charge off of my credit card and even had the head GM of TX call me to apologize. This is a very serious thing when someone comes to deliver something or do a service and they are not in uniform. Always call and inform the company of this!
  • I want to go on vacation. bad. real bad.
  • we had crazy storms yesterday - so bad that all outside classrooms (portables) were evacuated in the city because of heavy rain and winds. My room was leaking/flooding but we got it under control! Shew-ey! Never a dull moment
  • I'm going to start a cleaning schedule. I am SO sick of cleaning alll morning on the weekend. Little by little will be much easier and I hope to eliminate any cleaning over the weekend!
Sorry Nikki... this post was ALL ABOUT ME! And that's how I like it:)

Have I said I love Craigtslist lately?

Okay seriously... if you have not sold/bought anything off of Craigslist you are HIGHLY missing out!!! I have become OBSESSED and refuse to even shop for any type of furniture or large priced item at a store. After finding my amazing chest of drawers I just want to find more and more! Okay, prepare to go a little off topic for a hot minute...

Well the opportunity came up a couple weeks ago when Derrick finally got all of the plans made to move all of his stuff out here. This is kind of big... in my eyes huge... because he said he would A) never move in with a girlfriend and B) never would move his stuff until he owned a house. So, when he finally committed to doing this and rented the mini uhaul trailer and got in the car on Monday from Mobile (his car was in Newark, NJ, and back in February he drove it down to FL to his parents. His parents packed up his things and drove it to Mobile where his dad is currently working.) 10 hours later he got here! We unpacked all of the boxes which is a whole different story.

.. Hold up... let me get back to Craigslist... okay soooo when Derrick finally decided that he was doing it he said he was bringing all of his books... not some... not a couple boxes.. no no, this boy LOVES books. He has easily a couple hundred. He said he definitely needed some bookshelves. Well gee golly BOOKSHELVES ARE HELLA EXPENSIVE!

Craigslist... ooo Craigslist! I started hunting a couple weeks ago and wasn't having many hits. On Sunday I checked it out and found 3 sets!!! Our favorite ones a 2 natural wood colored (we will paint them black and put them in the bedroom) that are about 5 feet high. Derrick wanted 6-7 ft ones but for now I figure let's just get what we need and we can always use them for something else at a later point. Total... for BOTH bookshelves, they want $75. Yes, for the set! How can you beat that!?!? So we are trying to arrange a pick up time but unfortunately she is out of town until Tuesday. Derrick leaves on Monday. I do love Craigstlist but here are my top rules:

#1 - I never go alone to pick it up.
#2 - I never am home alone if I sell something
#3 - I never give them my address. I give them a close address and then tell them to call me when they get there. I will give them directions the rest of the way. I know they have a memory but this just makes me feel better.
#4 - I always ask for my money to be $20 increments (again, I guess it just makes me feel better that it wouldn't be counterfeit at such a small number... I know it's not true)
#5 - I always try to look them up on facebook. Based on their email addresses they sometimes have 1st and last name ... I wanna know if they are real and what I'm getting into.
#6 - I keep the doors open.

Really, every single person I have encountered has been so friendly, nice, and I never felt worried. But, you can never be too safe! Now after freaking everyone out on my rules GO SHOP ON CRAIGSLIST!

Our next purchases that I am keeping my eyes peeled for are male and female bikes (we live so close to the city and the major parks and it would be awesome to avoid parking). Also, a filing cabinet for all of our paperwork. Fo real... no joke... check.it.out! Hopefully pics of the new shelves soon!

Run run!

You know how you always wish that you will get the urge, the need, the WANT to work out? Like, I always start running and then one thing comes up, then another, and pretty soon I have 500 excuses as to why I just can't work out... ever.

Well, I'm so happy to say I finally have started to look forward to my runs! I feel yucky if I don't run, feel wonderful when I do, and actually enjoy them!

Here's the BIG problem.... I probably shouldn't be running right now. It is currently 98 degrees out... not good. But, I have the itch to run. I just recently started carrying the really small water bottles with me when I run because I get so dry and its nice to have some little sips and splashes on my face:) So I never thought I'd say this, but I'm a runner now. I enjoy it, I look forward to it, and I'm getting ready to head out the door on this 98 degree weather day because it's all I want to do!

Hair cut unveiled

I know, I know... I should've posted a pic the day I chopped 11 inches off of my hair and donated it to locks of love. I got it cut back on April 27so now almost 2 weeks later here it is!

Like? Not like? I L-O-V-E it! Everyone at my school loves it too. I can't walk down the hallway without people saying, OH MY GOSH YOUR HAIR - It looks amazing! My kids even noticed the other day how many people comment on it and said "wow, everyone loves your hair Ms. B!". Perfect timing for the summertime:)

Happy Mother's Day!

To the mom who....

-picks up her phone no matter what time of the day/night it is (even at 2am to answer how to get throw up out of the carpet when someone has the flu and couldn't make it to the bathroom)

-never missed a game or match when I was growing up - she was my #1 fan

-taught us the importance of money, how to spend it, save it, and be smart with it

-showed us how to pick up your life and start completely over

-can make anything, everything

-supports us in anything we want to do (change my major 5 times, move all over the country, etc)

-taught me to make lists and plan ahead - you can never be over planned!

-loves deer (and likes to talk to them and take tons of pictures of them!)

-enjoys being outside

-has turned her backyard into a gorgeous oasis

- has more talents than I could even list

To my mother... the most amazing lady I know.

Thank you teachers!

To all my teacher friends and followers, HAPPY TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK.

It's a great feeling to know you are loved and wanted by not only the kids but the parents too.

The entire week was dedicated to teachers but the exact day was on Tuesday, May 3. Our school sells carnations out front for $1 and it is asked that each child bring in 1 flower and create a bouquet for the teacher. My bouquet turned out beautiful. Tons of lilies and tulips, roses and carnations, but the best part was that each child picked out the flower for me and that meant a lot. My room mom also had the kids create a flower with their picture and tell me something they loved about me, which was much more special to me. I also got some wonderful shopping gift cards which I'm looking forward to using!

Here is a picture of my beautiful bouquet. I had another bouquet also but only got a picture of this one.

We had a teacher luncheon on Tuesday and Wednesday and it has been really nice this week.

Possibility of more changes around here too with working and jobs, so once I know more I will update.
And I finally have before and after pics of my hair... over a week later:)
AND - our new mattress should be arriving within the next 2 HOURS!! We washed all of the new bedding and I am anxiously awaiting a wonderful nights sleep:) Lots of posts soon to come!
